How far would you travel to be part of SEA?

Two years ago, I was living in the countryside of Kent, England, and was commuting into London to work at the American School in London. It was wonderful. My weekly routine consisted of cycling to the egg lady to get some of our breakfast groceries, walking the footpaths across beautiful views on weekends, and feeling the daily energy of the city of London. I loved my job working with a variety of grade levels, students, teachers and administrators. My husband and I had planned to stay for at least another four years.

Sweetwater Episcopal Academy’s search for a Head of School crossed my path. Originally, I was just exploring it to keep in touch with the US schools. When I had the opportunity to speak with the search committee members via a skype call, I recognized that the philosophy of the school was positive and enticing. It was during an interview visit that involved various meetings with the teachers, a group of parents, the board, and the search committee, that it hit me that I really wanted to be part of this school.

It was the people who made SEA the kind of place I wanted to spend my work hours, and even some of my play hours. Ironically, I accepted the job without having an actual tour of the facility. I already knew that buildings do not make a school. The grounds were beautiful, but even that is not enough to make a great school. The people I met on that visit so strongly believed in creating the right place for their children, I knew it was the kind of school that comes along only on the rare occasion.

There is not a day that goes by that I do not say my thankful prayers for the opportunity to be part of SEA. It is such a gift to all who spend their time here.
