“There is magic in the night when pumpkins glow by moonlight”.
Halloween is one of the most anticipated holidays on the annual calendar for kids and adults alike. There is an inescapable energy that surrounds this festival that is characterized by jack – o- lanterns, elaborate costumes, caramel apples, mounds of candy and chocolate, trick or treating and silly pranks. Halloween might just be a fun holiday for most but it is steeped in deep tradition dating back to an ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain. The Celts believed that on October 31, the worlds of the living and dead overlapped before the start of the New Year. The ancient Celts observed the start of the New Year on November 01 – All Souls Day. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest.
For us at Sweetwater Episcopal Academy we enjoy this holiday by celebrating with family, friends and fellowship at our annual Fall Family Fun Night. Like most good Halloween parties, there will be plenty of food, amazing costumes, decorated pumpkins and candy!
Happy Halloween!
