“Some people succeed because they are destined but most because they are determined” ~ Unknown

Fortitude is the courage to persevere in times of adversity. We are not born with fortitude, it is something we learn, practice and develop. One of the many ways that we can build this mental fortitude is by facing challenging and at times, uncomfortable situations. It is during these times that a positive “yes I can and will do” attitude becomes critical to character development. At Sweetwater Episcopal Academy we strive to provide a nurturing and safe environment where students feel comfortable to “fail”, be uneasy, and accept challenges with an open and positive mind. We foster determination, respect, perseverance, and self confidence despite the present challenges. Life is full of obstacles and bumps; facing them with courage and determination is what sets us apart from others. Recently students at SEA faced a “small challenge” during a basketball game where the coach was unavoidably delayed and several players were missing. Despite these hurdles, these 4students agreed to play rather than forfeit and gave it their all. They played with heart, courage and determination. It is good to know that the life skills they are learning at SEA are already bearing fruit!
